I bought an Xbox yesterday and got Xbox live. I have a few friends on it with which I can speak to through the headset in a game and on the dashboard. When I go into a game with a friend, they can hear me, but nobody else can. In short, only people on my friends list can hear me but I can hear everyone. It's nothing to do with the headset, and we've changed the family settings to Everyone. What do I do?

Go to your Xbox Control Panel when in-game and go to your "Xbox Live Settings". From there, you should be able to easily locate the setting that can allow others to hear you. If it's not available to you, go to your Xbox Main Menu and go to the very right panel and look through those Settings.

Also, it may be an in-game option itself. You should search inside the game too, to be safe.

It's all sorted now, it was some setting on the...um...something or other, anyway, my dad sorted it out, no idea how, but it works now!

yeah. your parents probably checked out the parental controls section on the purple blade and changed the settings. same shit happened to me when i first got it.
