Microsoft, although very stupid and loose with their "ideals" for customer satisfaction and service, generally do tend to permit fixes on consoles under select conditions. Call Support and see about what can be done with it. Throwing it away is just stupid. If you don't want it, send it my way then and I'll get it fixed up in no time and then sell it again to make a buck.
