Being 16, I'm smack dab in the middle of the teen audience of this forum. The idea of a first date is to be casual and natural rather than pseudo-sophisticated/elegant. In my perspective, anyway. Though it is a bit clichéd, I'll say it anyway: there are girls who enjoy flowers on a first date, seeing it as a sign of confidence and maturity. On the other hand, there are those who would immediately be turned off by a guy who brings flowers on a seemingly innocent first date. What say you, O Wise One?
