Default enough of this drivle

ok, rules

1. favorite book (including author)
2. a short synopsis
3.why (in no less then 5 sentences)
4. when you read it
5. why you would recommend it to others

here mine.

Master and Commander by Patrick O'Brian, is my favorite book. It takes place in the Napoleonic era, around both Spain and the Caribbean. Capitan Jack Aubry and his crew, travel the seas looking for both French and Spanish ships to plunder in the name of england. He meets a surgeon by the name of Stephen Martin, and together go through a number of impressive battles and adventures.

I love this book not only because of its vivid description, but because of my deep love for the sea. (as cheesy as that sounds) My grandfather was in the navy in ww2, and after his (often multi hour long) stories, I grew up with a fascination with the sea. Unfortunately, I have no sailing experience or trips to the actual coast. The closest I have ever been to a large body of water is Lake Michigan. (I live in Chicago) I live my fantasy's of sailing the seas through the Master and commander series.

I first read this book in seventh grade, and only got halfway because of its dickens like descriptions, and page long observations of how a sloop is run in the 1800's. I put it down and picked it back up later, freshman year. This year I read the next three books in the series.

I would NOT recommend this book for those who do not want to invest time to figure out what O'Brian is talking about. I had to look up more terms then I would have liked, but in turn have a interesting and vast knowledge of sea terms, and a new appreciation of how hard getting around was way back when.

I would recommend this book to those who enjoy avid descriptions and a thrilling, deep plot. Its a hard read, but its more then worth it.

''A Child Called it'' By Dave Pelzer; Not my favorite book, but a bloody good read!!

Makes me feel lucky to be around people who love me, as much as i think they dont... I cried and cried, Pelzer tells his childhood so well without holding anything back. I'm not twisted by the way, i picked it up when i was bored one day.

A Child Called It is a heart wrenching true story about one child's survival of one of the worst child abuse cases ever reported in California history. Dave Pelzer lived in a world of starvation, cruelty, and torture from the age of four until his rescue by courageous school officials at the age of twelve. This autobiography will both horrify and inspire all who read Dave's incredible journey through the dark insanity of his mother's rage.

Read it two years ago along with his other books, but picked it up again last month and read it within 3 days out in the sun.

May not be to everyone's taste but an absolutly heartbreaking story; i wouldnt have put up with the shit he did from my mum anyway!!

Seconded.

I like Idlewild - Nick Sagan.
I still haven't figured out why...I'll re-read it and see.

The Dark Half by Stephen King. Mainly revolves around an author and recovering alcoholic, Thad Beaumont, whose works isn't really that popular but rather successful under the pen name George Stark who writes crime novels about a killer named Alexis Machine. When the public founds out that Beaumont and Stark is one of the same, Beaumont and his wife staged a daylight funeral for Stark. However, as the story continues Stark "raises" from the dead and kills everyone who he thinks is responsible for his "death", while Beaumont is haunted by Stark in his nightmares.

I really love this book because of all the Stephen King books I've read, this one really stood out for me. Personally, I have passion for the horror/suspense genre and King made sure he captured that in his novel. Although the book has also been made into a movie, it really didn't do the piece any justice. I love reading and reading this piece made it more enjoyable and worthwhile. Its one of those books you wouldn't put down until you've finished.

I've been reading King's works since 6th grade but I read this during sophomore year.

I would really recommend this to everyone who enjoys light reading. It may not be your cup of tea, but it would certainly keep you entertained.
