Default Frog Conservation

It's no secret that I'm an avid animal lover. And being that I have five Fire-Bellied Toads, I am particularly sensitive to this issue. As such, I thought I'd bring it to the attention of the ARG member base to those who might be concerned.

It would seem that the likelihood of one-third to one-half of the world's frog populations (that's about 2,000-3,000 species of frog) are endangered and rapidly dying off due to disease, pollution and the introduction of non-native species to their ecosystems.

The Golden Frog has gone extinct as of 1989 and as many as 130 species of frog have already ceased activity. And more are teetering on the edge of extinction. An event that could throw the ecosystem in disarray as they play vital roles as predators and prey.

As well, "Amphibians eat pest insects, benefiting successful agriculture around the world and minimizing the spread of diseases, including malaria." (See Why Frogs Matter.)

The biggest culprit threatening frog populations is an outbreak of a disease known as chytridiomycosis. As such, an Amphibian Ark is being designed to remove frogs from their native environments and, eventually, reintroduce them in the future. (See How Clorox Helps.)

I'm sure some -- if not most -- of you do not care, but it is always good to be aware of such things.

Save the frog.

Ripple, do you believe all non-human species should be protected?

I most certainly do. If there is no justification to their death (food for example) or they have the ability to be spared, I don't see why humanity can't use the thinking capacity they were blessed to have to ensure that the ecosystem is left in prime condition. We were granted the ability to reason and other species were not. Why not use it in a productive manner?

And I am well aware of your self-serving tendencies. If you didn't read clearly, this is an issue that can affect you as it can me.

Good to see you have a righteous belief, Ripple. I personally will not stand to see the mindless murder of an innocent animal. It may just be my native heritage, but I believe that those in the Wild are the only innocent or holy beings on this earth.

As much as I would like to agree with Ripp, and I've already discussed this in minor detail a few moments ago, I just don't see a real point. I've attempted to make people "aware" at my workplace, school, yadda yadda, and its gotten me nowhere and people just don't have a caring enough attitude to listen. I do my part personally, and I know others do as well, and I feel its enough. For every one of us that are ecoaware and try to clean the Earth up a bit every day, theres 10 who carelessly throw things away and on the ground.

The balance of this planet has long past gone by its prime and there's not much we can do about it anymore. With civil wars/international wars, poverty, hunger in the "spotlight" people think they're aware enough just by watching the news and carry on about their day. They could honestly care less, unless it affects them at the time.

Like I said, I would love to take your side on this one Ripp, but I just can't. Its just how I feel about the issue of "awareness", though I do find this bit of information interesting to take a note of.

Everything will die, it's just a matter of how fast and hard we decide to fail.

Although your statement has some truth to it, I have to disagree with it in a slight sense.

Are you able to decide or even predict if this planet will ever become inhabitable or "die" as you say? Yes, OUR species may disappear in some odd amount of years, but there's nothing forbidding another dominate species from appearing in our place to inhabit the future planet.

If God didn't want us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.
