This egg thing is as confusing as typical theories after all that is what it is.

I guess the egg came first. I read an article recently that they believe chickens are direct descendants of tyrannosaurus rex and they were egg layers.

It may not be that absurd. The theory that birds, and not reptiles, are more closely related to dinosaurs is nothing new. You have to take into account millions of years of evolution.

If you really want to know, chickens are believed to be hybrid descendants of the red junglefowls and the grey junglefowls.
So, if this is true and chickens are indeed a hybrid of the two shits, the egg came before the chicken.

The animal that laid the first "chicken egg" was not a chicken as we know them, but it's ancestor since the DNA can only be changed/modified before birth. The egg it laid eventually gave rise to the chickens.

But one of the main points of Cell Theory is that cells cannot form ex nihilo, and have never been known to take shape from whatever materials are available, at least not on their own. They can only be generated from other cells.
