Put simply, go there with a very open mind and a high level of tolerance, or your trip will be soured by the people very quickly. With the exceptions of restaurant owners and other such jobs that cater to tourists, the Italian people are extremely rude to tourists (though I will say they are probably the only European country next to the UK that is friendlier to Americans than it is to other Europeans). Also, stick to the high profile tourist spots. Anything else will disappoint you because that country is very hit-and-miss regarding public sanitation and upkeep. Mainland Europe's hate for Italy is about the same as England's hate for France or Korea's hate for Japan. So maybe this was all just bias speaking. |

| Texas. After Callmuray's post, how could I refuse?

| I don't care what other people think about Italy.. It's where I my Dad and his family were from, I want to see where they grew up and I want to have an amazing time.. I'm not going to let what people say about Italy ruin it for me! ![]()

Sorry, it's not that I hate Italians, I just hate... the, uh... culture, for lack of better term. It's very aggressive and fast-paced, for better or worse. |
