Punching. You can only hit so high and hard with a kick, and most of the time what's your aiming for with a kick is obvious and easy to defend against.

Master a savate high kick and you can be pretty destructive. But it all depends on how you implement.

Personally, I would only hit and kick to the point of subduing them enough to get a grapple on them and either tear something or break their neck.


Thing is, it is a matter of how you are trained or how strong and fast you are, as well as just plain inteligeence.

if you can place one hard and accurate punch to the adams apple (or jugular vein) you've got in made.
Of course if you can place a fast and hard kick to the knee, you can shatter the cap and hyper-extent their joint and then they're fucked.

It simply matters on how controlled you are with each area of action.
And if you're iintelligent enough to implament it.

I've always tried to use my fists later in a fight, kicking and tripping mostly, striking my opponent with my fists while they're down.
Other than that, I rarely take a swing at my opponents, except for a shot to the face or perhaps a few throws/counters.

If you do things right, you can turn a successful kick into a series of moves, without directly using your fists you can still deal a decent amount of damage out.
Punching limits you as far as combinations go.
