It sounds like you signed up for something expecting to watch Anime all day, and were surprised when you were handed work. Tough shit, the world is about working, it's not easy like high school. Deal with it.

| Anime is Japanese... I wanted to learn Chinese because one of my possible career choices is being a translator. Of course I expected to get work, but every day we don't learn shit in the class and they give us tons of assignments like "write these characters 10 times" "memorize all these characters" "write a page about this" "make flash cards for all these characters" and a bunch of other stuff all in one day. Of course its not as hard as school. And I know the world is about working, but I am in school, and I have a vacation, and I don't feel like spending it in a classroom not learning shit. I don't mind working during the summer but I hate working for nothing. I expected the class to be like a language class at my school, where we learn vocabulary and use it. The whole 4 hours is pretty much the whole class mindlessly repeating everything the teacher says. Last edited by Caligium; 07-02-2008 at 02:26 AM. |

| You realize learning chinese (whichever variation you happen to be learning) is the memorization of thousands of symbols? At least 2000 to be called literate I believe. There is a point to it.

| Yes I know I have to memorize characters. Thats not why I hate the course. Its because we're not doing shit. We are mindlessly wasting time. (and mindlessly wasting more time on the stupid assignments) In two weeks of four hour classes we have only learned how to greet someone, count, ask their phone number, and a few characters. |

| Of course there is a process but the other Chinese class isn't spending time mindlessly repeating the same shit the whole time. They are actually learning. They know a shitload more stuff than any of the people in my class. I already know enough Spanish to know when people are making fun of me. And they didn't have Spanish. They had Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, and Pharsi. Last edited by Caligium; 07-02-2008 at 02:42 AM. |

| Arabic is a cool ass language. I know 'titless woman', which I use to greet just about every guy I see.

| You were better off trying to learn it on your own. I'm learning Japanese on my own and quite well, I might add. I haven't begun to learn kanji, hiragana or katakana. I'd rather focus my time on learning how to actually speak the language and use romaji in the meantime.
