People gain nothing, just an illusion of satisfaction. As for suicide ppl are just plain retarded.. cutters cut to make people "see them differently then other people" My sister was a cutter I went through everything and i am quite versed in the topic .. It did occur to them it wasn't the 'best' way but then again What is the best way? cutters don't see the logic of therapy or the chilling the fuck out.

Some cutters seek attention others truly believe and think that it is the best way. The way to recognize this is that attention whores say 'you dont know me! you don't understand! my life sucks because of you/them! I'm a terrible person and the world doesn't want me."

While people who are not seeking attention say "Well, if its not the best way what is? can you help me get through this? I was wrong i need help" Those who are not seeking attention are willing to see other solutions.
While people the are seeking attention say things to keep them cutting themselves, making ppl feel sorry for them, thus giving them attention.
