Well I'm a singer. I've been taking lessons since about 3rd grade- it's pretty much my life. What kind of advice are you looking for?

How about singing in front of other people instead of family and friends, they'll tell you if you suck or not.

well, that's just their opinion. We're all entitled to our own opinion's and if someone doesn't like Disturbed (even though I LOVE them), then it's their choice.

Well that same person shouldn't be biased towards all non-christians and such as is Guru

When you go for the higher notes DON'T move your head up, that makes it harder to reach higher notes, keep your head in the same position.

Singing is about

breath
tone
and pitch

3. I too sing, simply not as well as i would like because I cannot afford singing lessons and the people who teach singing around here are all douchbags who need to go suck themselves or cut it all off.

So unfortunatly I cannot assist with your singing endevours, all I can say is be open to critricism, and take EVERYTHING people say to heart...except when they say "OMG YOU SOUND LIKE so and so"

Well, here's a tip for singing.

Practice whenever you can. I'm not saying you have to practice 24/7, but practicing helps a lot, obviously. And as said above, don't tilt your chin up when singing higher notes. That's bad on your vocal chords and it causes you to strain more.

Another thing, if you have a piano near by, try warming up on it. Vocal excercises help your voice warm up. They also increase your vocal range.

And posture is very important. Don't slouch when you sing, but don't tense up either. Just be in a relaxed stance.
