I am doing a paper on Otaku as a subculture. A major part of the paper is an interview with a member of the subculture. I figured why not get a large amount to interview. To make this work I would ask you to at least answer the following questions. If you feel that there is something else I should be stating by all means please let me know.

Questions:

1. Do you believe there is a status or hierarchy within the Otaku community? Or is everyone equal?

1. How do you interpret your behavior as an Otaku?

1. What are your reactions to to what is written/said about the Otaku culture?

First there is a Otaking so there obs. is a rank of otakus. being nub (noob) aand then Regular OTaku an but under them all is a closet otaku someone who deosn't or won't admit to being one.

i interpret my behavior has obsessive and random, my reactions really depend on whats written like i do get mad when people consider anime and the like for little kids and label me as childish b/c i watch it and read manga. I pretty much agree with the above post on the hierarchy, Theres the nubs who only watch dubbed stuff and whats main stream. Then theres the Closet, ppl who hide there Otakuness. Then theres all the normal otaku who generally watch subbtitled anime and translated manga instead of waiting for aUS release. Then there are the crazy ones like myself who have over 1000gb of anime and manga on there comp and watch/read there favorite series several times and will keep up to date with 20+ running animes/mangas at a time. Then the Translaters, basicly the all fansubbers and scanulators who are worshiped by the Otaku community.

Actually there's a huge misnomer in this topic.

Otaku are Japanese nerds (not American, not Japanese-American, Japanese) who have no life and are looked down upon by their culture as immature and having no life. Basically they are grown ass men and women who live a fantasy world based on mediums that are mostly marketed towards young teens. They are to Japan what "Star Wars kid" is to us.

The term you are looking for is weabo. Little American kids who grew up on Naruto (or assuming you are so elitist in your nerdism that you are above Naruto, maybe Akira or some other overrated bullcrap) who worship everything Japanese and aimed at the youth (10-16 years of age) when it comes to videogames and reading.

There's nothing wrong with Japanese culture, just this whole worship of anime and manga and bull**** is on about the same position on the intellectual scale as basing your life around Star Wars or the Patriots.
