Generally a girl may stay with an abusive boyfriend, and continue to date such men in the future because of things that have happened in her childhood, or even just because she doesnt believe that she can find better.

Its a deep psychological thing behind alot of the reasons as to why people do what they do when it comes to their partners.

I myself have seen it with a girl I was deeply in love with years ago as well as my ex and a close friend of mine.
Its a horrible thing, and if they hadnt soon left those guys (after much poking and prodding from myself) I told them I would have murdered all those guys upon our next meeting.

So it depends on the situation at hand more than anything.
